When I watched Corpse Party, I felt like it had the qualities I love in the horror/ghost genre. For example, The Babadook was a slow movie, but really captured the negative emotions of struggling as a single mother. I think these kinds of stories really speak to basic human emotions, but illustrates them in an extreme manner to really emphasize the struggle (or whatever the antagonist dealt with). I love ghost/horror stories that have intricate backstories, which usually center around traumatic events/suffering/regret/etc. I am not sure if the game is totally ruined, though. Now, I am wondering if I have made a grave mistake that will ruin the game for me. Curiosity got the best of me, and I finished all four episodes (but not the Missing Footage episode). At that moment, I felt that I should stop watching to not ruin the game. I paused the episode and quickly bought the 3DS version of the game. Half way through the first episode, I liked what I saw and enjoyed where the story was going. I thought to myself, "Alright, horror adventure? Yasss." I was very intrigued by the story from what I saw online, so I decided to watch the first episode of Tortured Souls. After reading about it online, I remembered that Corpse Party for 3DS came out last year. I was in the mood for some horror anime that had some mystery and was recommended to check out Corpse Party.

Is playing the game still worth it? Thanks in advance for everyone's input! :D TLDR: I watched all four episodes of the anime. Original theme was provided by /u/Reposer Just hover over the spoiler to see the comment: Using spoiler tags in comments: (#s "Seiko is best grill")

The first game in the series was developed using the RPG Maker software and released in 1996 for the PC-9801. In Asura you'll follow main character's emotions with is ups and downs, and how he evolves facing the events.įinally I recommend to see Asura (75min movie) if you're looking for something similar oriented on violence and psychological points.Corpse Party (コープスパーティー ) is a survival horror adventure dōjin soft video game series developed by Team GrisGris.

In Corpse Party you'll see each characters evolve due to how they confront the situation (+supernatural, I agree). Survive, whatever it takes.Īnd this is how they confront their situation. In Asura's case it's about survival, only one thing in mind too. In Corpse Party, childrens are ghosts : what ghosts do ? In this case, they're ghosts because they're tormented about something. With such accelerated changes, the character lose everything to keep only one thing in mind.

When you decide to drop the innocence of a child to turn him into an adult -or in Asura's case, a beast-, it's a step that can't be reversed. Both are clearly gore with an intense amount of violence. It's hard to say much than that without spoiling. Ĭorpse Party : Tortured Souls makes me think to Asura before the end of the first episode and this, in several ways :įirst the bloody ambiance. First of, if you're looking for an anime with a similar story, then skip this recommendation.
